I prefer to write and receive hand written letters which has been a successful method of communication for hundreds of years. I do not like emails, BECAUSE:- 1. They are not personal or individual, most have an identical appearance. 2. They are not private. 10.000.000 emails are hacked into annually. 3. It is necessary to turn on an energy consuming expensive piece of technological equipment to send or receive an email FACT:- as I said above, computers cause more atmospheric pollution than aircraft. Although an email does not need a post or mail van to deliver it, goods ordered on-line do and have cancelled out any pollution gains made by emails. Occasionally emails cannot be sent due to brief technological problems but big power cuts are predicted in the future. Even if you are not paying to be on-line, someone is so that you can email. 4. How can you send a beautiful Birthday or Christmas card by email? ( We have just tried to download some photos from Holland sent by email with no success yet ) 5. I prefer letters BECAUSE:- 1. I kept every letter sent to me in my life ( Over 27 kilos ) despite once being homeless and often moving!! I have also received an estimated three thousand Christmas cards. Photos of all letters are on my website as proof, under the category "Various Life". I kept them to use as a diary in my later life as each one tells a story. This would not have happened with emails. 2. They are personal and with individual handwriting, sometimes with photos and paper cuttings enclosed. Some with foreign stamps with amazing design. 3. They are completely private. 4. They can be written anywhere any time, eg; on a beautiful mountain top while on an adventure FREE ! 5. In particular I have received such beautifully hand-made Christmas cards - but not many Valentine cards! Part of my University degree was entitled "Science, Technology and Society". Basically it showed that technology often led the person not the person leading technology. Why does every thing have to be so fast? Ghandi said " There is more to life than increasing speed." FACT:- The cost to the Earth of making one Google or similar search is between 5-15 grammes of CO2 in the atmosphere because the speed of the search uses the same energy as to boil one cup of tea.
